According to reports, Fox CEO Charlie Collier told journalists: “We’re turning the final season of Empire into a large television event. We are going out guns-a-blazing. Six years is a pretty remarkable run for a drama series.”

With the fifth and penultimate season of 'Empire' having only just finished, the news will certainly come as a shock to both fans anf the show's cast.

When Collier was quizzed about whether Jussie Smollett would return for the sixth and final season, he coyly responded, “There’s an option to have Jussie in the series but we have no plans for that,” according to Deadline.

It is expected that main cast members Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, Bryshere Y. Gray, Trai Byers, Gabourey Sidibe and Nicole Ari Parker will all return for the final season.
