Mariah Carey brought an end to 2016 with one of the most awkward performances ever during ABC’s annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve showcase.
The 'All I Want For Christmas' singer, who was being broadcast live on the channel from Times Square, initially suffered from some lip sync issues while singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
Carey appeared to be mouthing the wrong lyrics, while the song played.
Then, after the backing track for her song 'Emotions' began playing, she awkwardly stopped and told the crowd of millions:
“We didn’t have a check for this song… we’re missing some of the vocals, but it is what it is.
“I’m just going to let the audience sing.”
“I’m trying to be a good sport here,” she added later, claiming that she couldn’t hear what she was supposed to be singing.
Following the awkward incident, the singer made light of the situation on Twitter, writing “Sh*t happens. Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here’s to making more headlines in 2017.”

She also appeared to throw shade at Demi Lovato after the singer questioned Mariah’s claim that she also didn’t know Jennifer Lopez.
