GloRilla was arrested earlier this week on the 24th of July, when police responded to a burglary at her home – but why was she the one arrested?

The star was performing in Indianapolis, nowhere near her home in Georgia; however, she did have family staying at the residence who retaliated with force, causing the attackers to flee.

The burglars managed to steal some jewellery before getting away. So, why was GloRilla the one who was arrested?

What was GloRilla arrested for?

Police arrived and investigated the burglary late on the 24th July, when they spotted a small amount of marijuana in the master bedroom, for which they requested a search warrant.

A warrant was put out for GloRilla, whose real name is Gloria Hallelujah Woods, under the charge of felony possession of marijuana and possession of a schedule I controlled substance.

Shortly after the warrant was put out, the ‘Yeah Glo!’ rapper turned herself in and was released on bail for $22,260 (£16,814).

The story is quite scandalous considering no arrests have been made in connection with the burglary.

The police also claimed to smell a ‘strong odor’ coming from the master bedroom, and despite her not being home, she was the one held responsible.

Will GloRilla go to jail for her arrest?

It is unclear right now whether the state is going to press further charges, but it is assumed there will be an upcoming trial date.

However, in the state of Georgia, the charge could be anywhere from 1 to 10 years in jail if she is found guilty.

In the police’s official statement, they said: “The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice. At the same time, we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.”

Her team and the rapper herself have since responded to reports of the story, calling the arrest ‘absolutely unbelievable’.

Her team said in their statement: “No arrest warrants have been issued for the violent home invaders. Ms. Woods is a victim, not a suspect. This is our tax dollars at work, absolutely unbelievable.”

GloRilla herself took to her 2.7million Twitter fans and said: “CRAZY. My House got Home Invaded Saturday while I was in Indianapolis performing for the WNBA All-Star Game & instead of focusing on finding the Suspects, they focus on some cannabis.”

She continued: “1. So no I wasn’t busted 2. My house got robbed 3. I wasn’t home. Long story short, my house gets home invaded and Im the only one that gets arrested. So that’s the tea.”

Fans have jumped to the rapper's defence; they are not happy with how the arrest was initially presented.

One fan said: “You call them for help and they are worried about busting the victim for weed, great job officers.”

So, GloRilla is free now, but could potentially face jail time.
