Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' and Kanye West's 'All Falls Down' are hits that went multi-platinum, won countless awards and topped charts worldwide - all in under a day's work. You wont believe these songs were written in a matter of hours (or less!)
Producer Murdabeatz revealed that he and Drake made 'Nice For What' in a very short time! Speaking to DJBooth, he said: "We picked the [Lauryn Hill song], chopped it up, I made the beat while [Drake] was playing 2K. He's like, 'This sh*t fire.' He sat there, wrote the sh*t in front of me, cut the sh*t in front of me. We got the sh*t done, beat and song, probably in like an hour and a half."
Kanye didn't keep secret the lengthy process that went in to writing his debut album 'The College Dropout,' which turned 10 this year. Although four years in the making, one track 'All Falls Down' was thrown together in 15 minutes according to Kanye.
"Word for word, it may not be right the first time as you're going in and putting words in certain places, but it made sense overall" said Dream, the song's writer, an interview with Hot 97. "When Bey came in, she had that smirk that I see when I know a record is happening.” 20 minutes and four Grammys later...
It's a song that earnt him a grammy-nomination, went to number one worldwide, and sparked the making of his second solo studio album, yet Pharrell's recent hit 'Happy' was written in in his own words; "an hour or so."
In a Q&A on his Facebook page the Rap God told fans that his 2013 hit was written in "six minutes and one second." The song itself is six minutes and seven seconds long, with the last word uttered at 6.01. So either Em wrote the entire thing in one go with no pauses or hesitations, or he's exaggerating slightly.
It's the song you didn't stop hearing all through 2014 and yet it took Drake less time to write than it takes to watch most films. In an interview with CBC Radio he said: "A lot of my hit songs I’ve written in a very short period of time. 'Hold On, We’re Going Home,’ I felt like we finished that in like two hours"
The ode to the artists hometown went 5x platinum, but it only took 30 minutes to piece together according to its co-writer Angela Hunte, who said she wrote it in a moment of missing home.
Back in 2009 when J Cole was little-known, he was one of the few lucky artists selected to feature on Jay Z's 'The Blueprint 3.' In an interview with Complex the 'She Knows' rapper said his verse was written in 45 minutes. "I was like OK" he said, "if I only got 16 bars, I want to tell as much of my story as possible."
Jess Glynn - the woman whose vocals have featured on two big number ones this year, Clean Bandit's 'Rather Be' and Route 94's 'My Love,' wrote her first solo single 'Home' in half an hour. She told Manny Norte in an exclusive interview on The Norte Show; "It was the first session we all had. It started off as something else... We got carried away with the beat and it was written in like half an hour."
This song of 2013 - it literally won Grammy for Song of the Year - was written in just 30 minutes by a 15-year-old Lorde. She originally thought about giving the track away to another artist - bet she's happy she decided against that one!
In his book 'The Way I Am,' Eminem said he wrote the entire Slim Shady EP in one week. Seeing as it has 10 tracks, that's 1 song a day plus change.
