TI, Trey Songz, Snoop Dogg, YG and more have reacted.

Kanye West surprised fans when he made the controversial claim that slavery was a choice, during a new interview.

The rapper, who has continued to spark debate over recent weeks, made the comments during a conversation with hosts on TMZ Live.

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years? That sounds like a choice,” he said.

“You was there for 400 years and there was all of y’all?!”

Following the controversial statements, Kanye West attempted to clarify what he intended to say via Twitter.

"The reason why I brought up the 400 years point is because we can't be mentally imprisoned for another 400 years. We need free thought now. Even the statement was an example of free thought it was just an idea."

After the video clip went viral, artists from the Hip-Hop and R&B world showed their anger and confusion at Kanye West on social media.
