The Defiant Ones: Eminem and Dre (HBO)

What a moment!

Eminem and Dr. Dre have recalled their incredible first ever recording session together, in a new series dedicated to the careers of Dre and Jimmy Iovine.

The Hip-Hop legends have shed some light on their key moments in HBO’s new docuseries ‘The Defiant Ones’.

In a teaser from episode 4, Slim Shady reveals his shock at being chosen by one of his heroes, Dr. Dre.

“I’m looking at Dre like, ‘Dude, I see you on TV all the time. You’re one of my biggest influences ever, in life,'” he said.

Dre then explained what happened when they got into the studio for the first time, to record what would later become his debut album ‘The Slim Shady LP’.

“I had a studio in my house at the time and I went and put some samples together and did a couple of things in the drum machine. I invited him over and I was like, ‘I put this sample together. Tell me if you like it.’

“I hit the drum machine and maybe 2 or 3 seconds went by and he was like, ‘Hi, my name is!’ My name is!’ I was like, ‘Yo! Stop! Shit’s hot.’ That’s what happened our first day in the first few minutes of us being in the studio.”

The song would later become one of Eminem’s biggest singles ‘My Name Is’, the first song from his 1999 debut album.
