Who Am I (What's My Name) Snoop Dogg
MNEK is the man that has been writing songs since he was a kid and has already penned hits for Gorgon City, Rudimental and Duke Dumont. Now he's releasing his own single, it's time to find out a bit more about him.
Writer, producer, singer, musician, remixer - he's only 19 years old but the guy has done it all already, and he's doing it well.
MNEK started off as a bedroom producer where he grew up, in Lewisham, London. He would blog about his music - and people clearly paid attention, as he got a publishing deal by the time he was just 14-years-old. Picture: Instagram
His stage name comes from the pronunciation of his surname. Picture: Instagram
Thankfully, MNEK realises his name causes some confusion, which is why he's planted the pronunciation where you can't miss it - right at the top of his Twitter page.
The young Brit has been helping other people make music for a decade but finally he's releasing his first solo single - and we think it sounds like an instant hit.
That's what MNEK says.
Like we say, MNEK has actually been stirring up the music game for a while. The track was the anthem of the summer last year and earnt MNEK a Grammy nomination for 'Best Dance Recording' at just 19-years-old.
It was with Gorgon City’s single ‘Ready For Your Love,’ which MNEK wrote and featured on. The single was released in January this year and charted at number 4 in the UK singles charts and at number 2 in the UK dance chart.
MNEK has toured with the group and has writing credits and features on four songs from Rudimental's platinum selling 'Home' album - safe to say he's in with the Rudimental lot. Picture: Instagram
MNEK did an impressive refix of Janet Jackson's 'That's The Way Love Goes' which got everyones attention, but was removed from SoundCloud after a label complained. Picture: Instagram
Before his debut single has even been released MNEK has been confirmed to perform at a host of festivals this summer including Glastonbury, Bestival and Lovebox.
MNEK took Tinie Tempah's 'Written In The Stars' and made it even bigger, and that's not the only remix he's done from Bastille to Olly Murs to Duran Duran there's a range of MNEK remixes you're iPod is craving right now. Picture: Instagram
'Every Little Word You Say' is released in June with an album set to follow, there's no doubt that he has plenty more big tunes hidden up his sleeve.
