Kehlani Parrish was born 24.04.1995 in Oakland, California, though she later settled in Los Angeles pursue her career.
Kehlani originally rose to fame with teen pop band POPLYFE on season 6 of America's Got Talent. The group finished fourth.
After America’s Got Talent finished she left Poplyfe and was invited by AGT host Nick Cannon to ask her about being in a rap group however she didn't like the direction of the group and moved back to Oakland again.
She dropped her first mixtape 'Cloud 19' in August 2014. It was made in New York City with producer Jahaan Sweet and was ranked 28th on Complex's "50 Best Albums of 2014". Check out the tracks 'FWU' & 'Tell Your Mama.'
Named after the lead track, 'You Should Be Here' was Kehlani's second album and was released in April 2015. The mixtape reached 5 in the US RnB chart. The track 'YSBH' has had 6.69 Million views alone!
'You should be here' features rapper friends Chance The Rapper & BJ the Chicago Kid. As well as working with Charlie Puth to cover Drake's 'Hotline Bling', she also hooked up with Snakehips to feature on their track 'Til The Morning.'
Shortly after 'You Should Be Here' was released Kehlani signed to Atlantic Records in April 2015.
Before beginning her singing career, she studied dance at the Oakland School for the Arts and hoped to study at Juilliard.
Kehlani counts Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, and Jill Scott among her early influences.
Kehlani has been nominated for a 2016 Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
In early 2015, Kehlani opened for G-Eazy on the second leg of his "From the Bay to the Universe" tour, taking her across North America, Canada and Australia.
