Independent Women Pt. 1 Destiny's Child
Nicki Minaj's long awaited third studio album 'The Pinkprint' is coming soon and there are tons of reasons to be excited about it.
It is no coincidence that Nicki chose an album title that closely resembles Jay Z's iconic 2001 album. "I think everybody knows how obsessed I am with Jay Z. He's always been my favourite rapper" Nicki told MTV, assign "He did such a great job of creating this Blueprint brand for male rappers and I wanted to do that [for] female rappers to be able to pattern themselves with what I’ve done one day". Nicki hinted earlier in 2014 that The Pinkprint would have no guest features on it. Now the tracklist has been revealed, we obviously know that's not true. There's more reason to be exited than ever, with Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Meek Mill, Breezy and more featuring.. Picture: Instagram
So far Nicki had Game feature in the video for 'Pills N Potions', even though his vocals aren't on the track and she shocked everyone with some racy dancing with Drake in the 'Anaconda' video. We sense a pattern here… Will more faces pop up in future videos?
"The tracks on Pink Print are back to my hip-hop roots" Nicki confirmed earlier this year. "And I don't think it's something that I'm necessarily trying to do. As soon as I started working on my new album, that's just the songs that I've been writing." Nicki's done a good job so far on the album of creating the hip-hop sound she naturally leans to but keeping them radio friendly. No doubt that we will hear some rap-heavy non-single tracks when the album's released. Picture: Instagram
It seems like everyone on Cash Money Records is having album release problems. Tyga's announced he'll be releasing 'The Gold Dynasty' independently, Lil' Wayne's 'Tha Carter V' has been pushed back AGAIN, and he's ranted on Twitter about the label holding him prisoner. Let's be please 'The Pinkprint' is coming at all.
And no one can get enough of it. After being out of the limelight for some time in 2013, Nicki came back looking like a different person when she dropped "looking" earlier this year and showed off a new, natural look. “You can either continue doing costumes or you can just say, ‘Hey guess what? This will shock them even more" she told MTV, "Doing nothing will shock them even more".
One thing is certain about 'The Pink Print' - it is going to have a lot of honesty, emotion and lyrics based on Nicki's real life in it. 'Pills N Potions' is a prime example of that. "I just kinda feel like while I was working on the album I started realising how much i've changed. How people change… I just felt like talking about that" she revealed to Ryan Seacrest back in May.
Although Nicki said that she won't have any guest features on the album, she hasn't said that she won't have special guests writing songs for the album. In fact, Nicki confirmed that Drake has sent her two tracks for the album. "We’re still discussing them and still making some changes, but I don’t have an official Drake song yet. So, I can’t say that Drake will be on my album because I never want to just say stuff until it’s official. You know what I mean?” she said.
If Nicki's new 'Anaconda' video doesn't get you excited for new songs, and new videos, to drop, give up and go home now! Filled with bundles of energy, wild outfits and an unexpected sample - you know Nicki's going to have to top it with her other singles, we just can't possibly imagine how!
All the way back in 2013, before 'Pills N Potions' and before 'Anaconda', Nicki told Power 105 that her new album was going to be "next level", claiming; "It's very different from anything I've done, which I'm surprised about. I'm not feeling like I did this. I feel like this is next level."
